Early Days…
Is having a dog easy? NO! Lol, but he’s worth it! If you really want a dog/pet, be prepared for every aspect of it — potty breaks in ANY weather (outside and inside, unfortunately), vet visits and emergency vet visits, reactivity and unnecessary barking, dog hair everywhere, pet medicine and more! The first 2 weeks, I took Bentley out to potty every 2 hours — tiring and inconvenient of course, but it helped him adapt. I also slept on the couch the first 2 weeks by his pet pen so that he’d know I was there.
On the bright side, pets are a great companion. They will love you unconditionally, and will follow you absolutely everywhere—no more privacy lol. They are literally your new baby/child to take care of…
Bentley came from a great family breeder in South Carolina who took care of him and his brothers and sisters from birth until their “gotcha day”. That is also important and key in their development.
And one more thing… In the beginning I bought a lot pet toys and accessories — some that I regret or wasted my money on lol. For example — dog socks, dog bath robe, too small dog accessories (that I didn’t measure before buying. This is just a few things that as a first time dog owner I thought it would be “cute”, but ended up being a waste of money cause he never used it or it didn’t fit at all. Definitely invest in a good harness/collar, a good leash, the essentials (dog bowls, bed, blankets, food, treats, etc), dog toys that can stand the test of time, and even dog wipes.
